Are you open year round?  Yes we are.  The weather is generally nicer from March until the end of October.  Woods Creek is on the warmer side as it is not fed by the melting snow. In the late fall and winter months, Miner John likes to explore the creeks that are generally dry in the summer months. If you are up to it, you can choose to explore these creeks with Miner John during the late fall, winter, and early spring months.

What else is there to do in the area?  Whether you would like to tour gold country with its historic mining towns, visit Yosemite, go wine tasting, fishing, camping, golfing, horseback riding, and skiing there is so much to do in the nearby area. Only 40 minutes up the road is the National Forest (Strawberry and Pinecrest) with its fresh pine air, lakes, and rivers. Click here to go to our Other Gold Country Attractions webpage. Many of the hotels and motels list the many activities to do in the area as well. Click here to go to our Hotels and Motels webpage.

What is sluicing?   Sluicing is the use of a sluice box in a creek, stream, or river that separates the gold from the gravels.  The sluice box has riffles that catch the gold.  This method is faster than gold panning alone.  A miner can process more material than gold panning alone, hence, the increased likelihood of finding more gold.  See picture below or click here to go to our Pictures Submitted by Guests page.

What is a highbanker? Click here to see our Pictures Submitted by guest page.  It shows a picture of a highbanker.

Can we keep all the gold that we find?    Absolutely you can keep all of  the gold that you find. However, if you insist on donating it to Miner John, he surely will not object.

What should I bring?   It is a good idea to bring bottled water or drinks.  Pack snacks or a lunch, you will be hungry depending on the length of your trip. There are nearby stores & restaurants. Wear clothing and shoes that you do not mind getting wet or dirty.  Sandals are not recommended.  Bring a change of clothes, especially for children.

Can we make last minute reservations?  Absolutely, but it is highly recommended that you make reservations in advance so that we can ensure the availability of a sluice.

Do you offer group discounts?   The group minimum is 8. The more people in a group, the higher the discount.

Can you email me a pricing sheet?    Yes we can.  Or you can click on the pricing link and there are two downloadable versions at the bottom of the page.
